Self-Troubleshooting

Important Tips:

DO NOT PLACE DEVICE UNDER ANY METAL

• Mount device inside dash at highest position with sticker bar-codes facing up

• Before connecting to constant power all wires must be connected
(or insulated) to avoid electrical damage

Verifying Device Status:

Orange Rapidly Blinking – Searching for cellular signal

Solid Orange – Cellular registered and connected

Green Blinking – Searching for GPS signal

Solid Green – GPS signal connected

Common Issues:

Wired Device (2630)

Device Offline (not reporting):

  • Check the device to make sure it’s receiving power. This can be done by getting to the device and making sure the two LED lights are on (Green & Orange[Amber]) *Green is GPS and Orange (Amber) is Cellular
  • If no lights are on, the device isn’t receiving power. This means that the red wire isn’t receiving any voltage or not enough voltage to power the device.  *Should be receiving constant 12v of power.
  • If the lights are on, what are they doing? If the green is solid, but the orange is continuously flashing slowly, the device has a bad comm and will need to be replaced.
  • If both lights are flashing rapidly in unison, this typically means the device has a bad ground (black wire). We recommend grounding directly to the vehicle’s chassis.
  • “Power Up” – These events represent a loss and regaining of power. Essentially, a power up event is triggered whenever a device receives initial power from the vehicle.  If you are receiving multiple “Power Up” events, this indicates an issue with the red wire coming loose from the vehicle or it’s not connected to a true constant 12v power source.

Tracking Device only Reports once each Hour

  • If a wired device is only reporting once an hour when the vehicle is in motion, this indicates that the white wire was not installed correctly. The white wire needs to receive 12v when the engine is on and 0v when the engine is off.  This tells the device how/when to report in the correct intervals.  There is also an in-line 3 amp fuse attached to the end of the white wire.  Although rare, this can blow or be removed causing ignition detection failure.  If wiring leads look good, inspect the in-line fuse and replace if blown or missing with a standard 3 amp fuse.

Tracking Device Shows Engine Constantly Running
If your Wired tracking device is reporting every 60 seconds, even when the vehicle engine is turned off, this indicates that is is wired ‘hot’. There is most likely an installation error regarding the Ignition wire (WHITE). Make sure this wire is recieving 12V when the engine is ON. When the engine is OFF, the device should be getting 0V. The presence of power on the wire is what tells the unit whether or not the engine is running and therefore what reporting interval to use.

Tracking Device Stops Reporting at Engine Off

The Wired unit is program to report ever 60 minutes when the Engine is OFF. If there are no readings at Engine OFF, please check the RED wire and ensure that is recieving 12V of power, REGARDLESS OF ENGINE STATUS. The RED wire is the unit power supply and must be maintained whether or not the engine is running.

Plug-In Device (3035)

Device Not reporting (Offline)

  • First, check the readings report for a “Device Unplugged” event. This is the most common cause of an OBD device to stop reporting.
  • If there is a device unplugged event, this means the device has lost external power, (power from the vehicle). This could be caused from the device being bumped enough for the pins to not be fully connected, the device may have actually been removed from the port, or a fuse could have blown in the vehicle.  The fuse is most commonly the same fuse that powers the cigarette lighter.
  • If there’s multiple device unplugged events, the device may just be loose in the port. In this scenario, unplug completely, then plug back in.  You can also use zip ties to secure it in the port.
  • If the device is offline and it didn’t give an unplugged event, the device likely has an internal issue. If this is the case, check the LED light status to determine if the device’s comm is bad (slow flashing orange light).  If the device doesn’t have the 3 LED lights, unplug device for at least 3 hours to allow its internal battery to die completely.  Then, it can be plugged back in (we recommend making sure it’s plugged into a vehicle with a known to be working OBD port), and see if it starts reporting again.  This process will force a hard reboot on the device and may fix the issue.  If the device still doesn’t report after this, the device will need to be replaced.

Device Does Not Show Engine ON

  • Device only reporting once an hour – for an OBD device to only report once an hour while the vehicle’s engine is on, this means the device isn’t communicating properly with the vehicle’s computer. Please contact support if this is happening and the device will likely need some firmware updates.

This is an issue that stems from communication between the vehicle ECM (on board computer) and the plug-in unit. Please contact Suppport to resolve.

Wired and Plug-In Units

If the Tracking Device Temporarily loses Mobile Coverage (Offline)
The location data collected on your devices from the satellites are transmitted through cellular towers. There are occasions when the vehicle may go out of coverage range and the tracking device will not be able to update the vehicle’s location in real-time. In this case, the tracking device will store the readings in its memory and when it regains mobile coverage, it will upload all of the backlogged messages in your Reports history. So you will not lose your history due to mobile coverage!

Loss of GPS Signal (GPS Not Available)

The tracking units are in constant communication with the orbiting GPS satellites, in order to maintain knowledge of their current location. If this communication is disrupted then the reading will show ‘GPS Not Available’.

The most common causes of GPS signal loss are physical barriers. Placing the vehicle in a parking garage or under metal roofs will cause signal loss. Moving the vehicle back outdoors, with a CLEAR view of the sky, should resolve the issue without futher intervention.  If GPS signal is not restored within 10-15 minutes, please contact Support for further troubleshooting.

Provided that the cellular signal has not been disrupted the readings will continue to register engine activity, however there will be NO attendant location data. Location data CANNOT be recovered as it was never generated in the first place.
